I know, right? Wrong.

Posted by JB Ean

I know, right?New catch phrases and sayings infiltrate our ears all the time. The young, hip and trendy are always coming up with new ways to speak. When I was growing up (which wasn’t so long ago) we said things like “Awesome” and “Tight”. I’m not really sure what the kids are saying these days, but you can go to urbandictionary.com where there is a world of slang terminology to feast your eyes upon.

There is one phrase of today that seems to be catchier than H1N1 in a preschool. I’m not sure who said it first or where it first dawned, but the phrase “I know, right?” has come into the English language and just won’t seem to go away.

I first heard the phrase from the 2004 movie, Mean Girls.  I have to admit when I first heard it I liked it. I know I must have liked it, because I repeated it and repeated it often. Oh yes, I am a guilty know-righter but I have since learned the error of my ways.

See You Next Tuesday Scolds At Stop Light

Posted by JB Ean

I was driving up 9th Street, the one way that runs north ,when I heard sirens.  Immediately I hit the brakes as I looked in the rearview to see flashing lights in the next lane about a block behind me.  I was positive I was just about to get nailed for speeding.

I slowed my speed down even more and looked for a spot to pull over as I watched for the flashing lights to cross lanes and ride up behind me.  But there wasn’t a spot to pull over, the side of the street was completely full of parked cars. And those flashing lights didn’t come up behind me, they kept on their original course.  I was safe!  I wasn’t getting pulled over afterall, he was after someone else.

With relief I switched into the left turning lane to distance myself even more from the police car.   I was now stopped at the red light at the end of 9th Street before it merges onto State Street and I watched as the police car sped north on route to an emergency. As I sat at the red light, I noticed out of the corner of my eye yellow streaks flying about and something flapping at me. Read the rest of this entry »

District 9 Review: For Human Eyes Only

Posted by JB Ean

District 9 PosterI had heard very little about District 9 until a photo of Sharlto Copley with an eerie discolored yellow eye appeared on the cover of my Entertainment Weekly. The cover boasted “Why District 9 will blow you away”.   I have to say I was intrigued.

After reading the feature and discovering that the film was produced by Peter Jackson, the man that brought us the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and directed by unknown director Neill Blomkamp,  I began to get excited about the film.

After a summer full of big budget, no brain, action-packed flicks, District 9 promised a sci-fi action movie with something a few others lacked. A good plot.

The movie takes place in 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa. 20 years ago an alien race was left stranded in the dust bowl town. The government segregates the species to District 9, a shack-filled slum where the aliens known as “prawns” soon become over-populated and discriminated against.  As the citizens of Johannesburg lose their patience with their new neighbors, their hatred for the aliens grow.
